Virtualization

Virtualization represents an inevitable trend in the world of modern information technologies whose implementation can significantly improve the quality and use of IT infrastructure and IT services.

The main goal of virtualization is to reduce hardware costs, power consumption and storage space  for  the related IT equipment. By using this technology, we get a dynamic increase in the use of IT resources, increase of their flexibility and security together with the consolidation of computer equipment.

Virtualization is recommended as the best solution for the increase of reliability and resistance to IT resources failures, as well as  designing solutions for recoveries  from all types of disasters. The technology itself contributes to the environment protection and is classified among the family of green technologies.

Virtualization includes server infrastructure, workstations and applications.

Server Virtualization

The rapid development of the Internet, hardware and system software has resulted in the expansion of a number of servers, services and applications in Data Centers. For the purpose of the efficient utilization of IT resources and substantial reduction of the initial and operating investment in IT, modern solutions that are called virtualization have been developed. Server virtualization is a technology that enables "accommodation" of multiple virtual servers on one physical server, in order to optimize the system, increase safety, ease the maintenance and investment in hardware, space and electric energy.

VDI -Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

Virtualization of desktop infrastructure represents technology which delivers centralized virtual machine (workstations) to the user through a computer network. The technology requires servers with stored virtual workstations, as well as a physically thin client or PC to communicate with the servers.

Desktop virtualization is based on dynamic delivery of virtual Microsoft Windows operating system - desktop, in the form of service, regardless of  its location, with the necessary condition that there is a network communication with the server infrastructure. Virtualized workstations are no different from traditional workstations with the installed local operating system in functionality and looks. Such a concept brings down the cost savings and provides easier and cheaper maintenance of the operating systems on workstations. Total cost of desktop virtualization implementation can be reduced up to 40%.

Cloud Computing is a set of data and services that coexist in a shared scalable set of resources based on virtualization technology and/or scalable application environments. It is a model that, on a user’s request, allows easy network access to shared set of resources (for example, network resources, servers, hard disk space, applications and services) that can be quickly available for the use or shut down, with minimal changes or actions by the service provider. Such a model consists of five key characteristics, three service models and four models according to the classification.
